Analysis of Bağ Evi

We analyzed the Serhat Akbay’s Bağ Evi to make an abstract model of it. We learned the building by making its drawings.

According to our analysis, we realized that these two buildings have very different levels of relations with their environment. The Vineyard House has a terrace and big windows which increase its relationship with the outside. On the contrary, the Office has a cellar and walls around it which decreases its relation with the outside. It also has stairs which are the only relation of the building with its surroundings.

At our abstract model, we wanted to show these changes in the relationship with the environment. We examined the building layer by layer and expand the layers at the parts which have more relation with the outside. Also, narrowed the layers when the relationship with the outside decreased.

We also prepared a poster that shows our all studies.

Research: Bağ Evi

We all made groups of three and we were assigned to make a comprehensive research on a project as a group. Also, we should understand the spatial qualities of the building that we assigned.

Our group’s building is “Bağ Evi” which was constructed in 2000 by Serhat Akbay at Yağcılar Köyü, Urla, İzmir. Also, Akbay built his office at near the vineyard house in 2005.

The land and the office are in the north-south direction and the vineyard house is in the east-west direction. There are vineyard between the two structure.

The most emphasized feature of the vineyard house is that the structure touches the ground just at few points to not break the continuity of the land.

Structure is all made with timber. Its manufacturing was completed in the atelier then the pieces were connected each other at the land like making a model. Manufacturing has finished in 1,5 months and the montage has finished in a month.

There are fixed windows at two long sides of the building. The ventilation, which are at the bottom of the windows, provide using the North winds. Also the big windows and the semi-open space at the front (terrace), support the continuity and the harmony between the outdoor and the indoor and increase the efficient usage of the light.

The structure has a simple appearance which is away from ornamental and non-functional effects. Its simplicity is supported by the environment, the forest while the building also dominates the land.

Moreover, the other building has different functions than the house but they have many similar features such as their simplicity, continuity and the harmony with the environment.

Differently, the office has a vine cellar at under the ground while it is also used as office by the architect. The cellar functionalizes the structure and makes it clear that why it is near the vineyard house.

Its constructing way and the usage of material is similar with the house and it is noticeable that again the structure has simplicity, so the continuity, also in it. Moreover, the structure is covered by stone walls which provide a suitable environment for the cellar. Also these long walls not only strengthen the structure’s horizontality and make it coherent with the house, the vineyard and the land, but also strongly separate the forest and the vineyard.

We also prepared a poster for this research. At the poster we mostly consider the intelligibility of the which drawing is belong to which structure and we emphasize some similar and important features of the constructs.
